How much desire and how much temptation is upon us? I have a challenge for you to see how effected you are by fast moving social media. Are you ready for the challenge?
Can you read this whole post without rushing or thinking it is too long so you'll do it later?
We are faced with temptation all day long. right now it may be candy. another time it could be wine, or high calorie food, maybe the temptation to lie , or cheat. We could be tempted to not see things through because they take too long and are not holding our attention.
I mean really , what is the harm?
No one is getting hurt!
God wants me to enjoy my life and have some fun!
A little bit is not a problem!
No one will ever know anyway!
We are so secluded right now from others, we can hide behind our computers and pretend all day long that things are fine while we "little bit" our way to obesity, ill health, a poor relationship or depression.
But how can we eliminate temptation. I want to be truly free from temptation and I believe we all do. We can choose the discomfort of discipline or the discomfort of regret. either way - we are uncomfortable , one is harmful and the other is helpful to your body, mind and spirit.
Resist the temptation to give in in the first place...even a little bit. Yes this is a challenge, a challenge for me daily. We have so many things beckoning us to fall into laziness, greed, lust, gluttony and so on. To say no to this may be a challenge too much to bear.
To avert our eyes from the temptation is what I practice. Turn your eyes to something positive . Possibly a person who we feel models that resistance to temptation, (I choose to turn to Christ). Would Jesus be spending time on Facebook, with all the nonsense- wasn't Facebook created by a scorned guy getting back at his ex-girlfriend? Not my cup of tea - where is the love Zuck?
Zuckburg fell into the temptation of anger, jealousy, hatred and so on.
The title is about candy - but candy can be substituted for anything that is small , sweet and tempting. Because no matter how small the piece of "candy " is - , eventually ,you want more more often. and if we do not practice discipline on the little things, it is almost impossible to practice the discipline on the big things.
A quick note after a week or so of cutting off from Facebook - I have found that my self discipline has gone up dramatically! I am more in control, spend more time exercising and self reflection. I challenge you to try it for a week and see what happens!
love,
Lorella
